(Nearest overground station: Battersea Park. Iām aware train strikes are scheduled on this date but hoping the dispute will be resolved by then, if not I suspect I will be spending five hours talking to myself with a crate of wine and a few records to keep me company.... actually that sounds a lot like a normal day in the studio!)
Shapeshifter and The Unfaithful Servant are part of an ongoing series of prints and paintings, inspired by the plaintive tree stumps that punctuate Brockwell Park. The works are odes to these once majestic trees that have been reduced to melancholic relics; petrified shadows of their former selves, wounded, ruined and exposed... yet they still seem to possess an innate majesty and power. They appear to me as sentinels; benign, wounded giants, harbingers and prophets of doom.
Fires Were Started depicts an event that may have happened, may not have happened but could have happened. The image has a vague biblical resonance but is also slightly enigmatic. Is it the narration of teenage kicks going awry, or are the fleeing trio witness to a supernatural phenomenon....
